Makes me wonder how a remix of SMB1 set to a matching rhythm would improve skill levels and progress. After just 2 or 3 runs through a level, the net effect is akin to feeling like an expert running full-tilt through a level in Super Mario Bros.

Many levels really do make good use of sound as memory cue / anticipation mechanism / twitch mnemonic, so every death feels like forward progress and you can instantly see how to improve your finger work. The gameplay is exacting and crisp without being a heartless bitch of uber-precision. Indy rhythm games often seem to be more enjoyable as self-running screen saver eye-candy, but this 2D side-scroller on rails is pretty enjoyable. I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying Bit.Trip Runner, released a couple of days ago on Steam for Mac/PC crossplay from these guys.

Unrelated, but is anyone still playing Magicka? Have the issues all been patched? Can you customize the controls? It seemed fun, but I wasn't quite happy with either the KB or Xbox360 controls in the PC demo.

But then again it's DRM-free and multiplatform, and I might end up getting $20 worth if the game is as long as it seems.

I'm spoiled by Steam sales and usually max at US$10 for a AAA title, $5 for an indie-puzzler.

Does the full game have more of this excellent music? Great tunes, but it loops about every 10 mins. Art & animation are great controls are decent. I haven't read the story at all it seems superfluous so far. I've probably played for at least 4 hours so far (slacking somewhat). The demo is pretty long I've beaten 2 worlds (5-6 levels apiece) and opened a third. It's pretty tough! My cranium feels taxed, and then rewarded when I solve a puzzle.
